Echo of Snow Outdoor Art Installation
the project
As part of Calgary’s annual Chinook Blast winter festival, we collaborated with local artist and designer Collin Hnetka to create Echo of Snow. This outdoor art installation offered a bit of winter magic, even when the temperature dropped below –25°C that week. Designed to be as fleeting and captivating as a snowfall itself, the goal was to build a space that would draw people in, spark curiosity, and invite them to see the season in a new light. The experience had to be interactive, durable, and beautiful — no matter the weather.

What We Did
The Solution
Two large-scale snowflake sculptures formed the centrepiece of the installation, each built from six precisely cut layers of plywood and finished with weather-resistant white aluminum cladding that held two-way mirrors. Nearly 12,000 individually addressable LED lights were programmed to create a glowing infinity mirror effect: shifting colours, changing patterns, and drawing visitors into a sense of depth and wonder. The structures were mounted to a custom-built wooden pergola designed for strength, stability, and safe public interaction.
