Expanding Large-Format Graphics Production with our HP Flatbed Hybrid Printer

After months of research and testing, we’ve added a major new capability to our production studio: the HP Latex R1000 Flatbed Hybrid Printer.
This investment allows us to print directly to rigid substrates while maintaining roll-to-roll flexibility — opening up new creative options and improving efficiency across a wide range of display applications.
what it does
The HP R1000 is a hybrid printer that supports both flatbed and roll media. Unlike our other workflows that require printing onto adhesive vinyl and mounting it to rigid boards, this printer allows us to print graphics directly onto the material itself.
We can now print directly to materials such as ACM, Sintra, foam board, acrylic, wood, and glass — while still producing banners, decals, and soft signage on rolls. This reduces handling steps, shortens production timelines, and gives even more creative flexibility.

capabilities
The R1000 brings several new production capabilities into our print production department, including:
- Direct-to-substrate printing on rigid materials
- Roll-to-roll printing for flexible graphics
- White ink for layered, high-contrast designs
- Sharp detail and consistent colour across materials
- More scratch-resistant prints compared to other flatbed systems
HP’s water-based latex inks are low-odour and free from harsh solvents, creating a better work environment and a more sustainable print option.

applications
This printer expands what we can produce in-house for trade shows, branded environments, and custom installations. Common applications include:
- Rigid trade show graphics and panels
- Window graphics and privacy films
- Layered and dimensional acrylic signage
- Backlit displays
- Custom wall features and branded interiors
- Experiential marketing display backdrops and features
The addition of white ink also enables printing on transparent, dark, or textured materials with greater depth and contrast.

what it means for our clients
By bringing flatbed hybrid printing in-house, we gain tighter quality control, faster turnaround times, and greater flexibility during production. For our clients, this means more material options, more creative freedom, and display solutions that are built with precision from the ground up.
